NEW DEAL INDEPENDENT FOR GA-5

Meet Cory

Central Georgia Deserves Innovative, Independent, Grassroots Leadership

Description of image

I’m a 33-year-old Jamaican American grassroots congressional candidate running to represent Georgia’s fifth district. I’m a Computer and Social Scientist and Activist running to bring a new generation of leadership to Congress. I come from a generation that graduated into the 2008 financial crisis, came of age in a down job market, and then once again went through the covid economic downturn of the 2020s. This happened all the while politicians on both sides of the aisle ignored or were indifferent to the plight of the working class.

Raised in Yonkers, New York, Cory grew up with the values of multiculturalism for many different races and religions and community camaraderie that was inherent within the city’s DNA. Georgia is no different, and welcomes people from all across the world, including his own family whom found a home in Stockbridge after 2016. Moving down to Georgia, the Empire State of the South and a Mecca of Black Excellence, was a dream come true for a young black boy whose political awakening, like many other young adults, was just beginning to materialize around the end of Bernie Sanders’ first presidential campaign, so he was excited to call the place home.

When there came a time to get involved politically and make a difference, Cory took action canvassing and knocking on hundreds of doors as an unpaid volunteer for both the Stacey Abrahams Gubernatorial and Bernie Sanders Presidential campaigns. Though both campaigns came up short, Cory never stopped believing a better future was possible and America’s best days were ahead of her.

As recently as 2026 Cory became active again volunteering for another congressional candidate in Florida and now this time he’s taking a chance and deciding to try his own hand at a Congressional Race to speak truth to power, guarantee healthcare as a human right, and make sure the citizens of the fifth district have the basics of Housing, Education and Childcare met.

Cory has worked with emerging technologies including Computers and Artificial Intelligence in the past, and would have a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities of this new technological era better than most. He seeks to put his knowledge to use embracing innovation for its upsides while making sure it doesn’t take away jobs and leave the labor market worse off, or destroys individual citizen’s privacy or our youth’s mental health.

A New Generation of Leadership and Change in our time.

Cory Paisley believes Georgia's 5th District deserves a progressive, effective leader who will be responsive to and prioritize the participation of the public in an inside-outside way that can finally break the gridlock in Washington.

We are not running a traditional campaign, and that is not a bad thing. For too long the status quo of politics as usual has meant phenomenal gains for those at the very top, impoverishment and hardship for everyone else, and eventually, inevitably, disillusionment.

What we're witnessing take place now- a billionaire bought government supplanting Democracy with Oligarchy, breaking laws with impunity between DOGE, ICE, the Epstein conspiracy and President Trump's actions, and cutting our healthcare while we pursue more and more foreign entanglements abroad- is simply the culmination of a statuo quo that has failed.

Cory believes in many ways the choice is binary. We can either have billionaires and income inequality, or we can have a functioning, independent Democracy. We can either embolden future admininistrations to break laws and rich pedophiles to expand their operations, or we can have some semblance of law and order and accountability. Cory will fight to defend the American people and hold the powerful accountable- while still pushing for and upholding our shared progressive values.

POLICY SUMMARY

New Politics for a New Era

Medicare for All. It is unconscionable that the working, taxpaying citizens of this country live with teeth pain or back pain and are unable to visit a hospital due to the cost and must make due. On an economic level, the existing for-profit healthcare system costs the country billions of dollars more than a single payer-government-sponsered solution would. It's not just morally the right thing to do, it’s economically the right thing to do. Nearly every wealthy OECD country on Earth already does this- they guarantee citizens healthcare as a human right, and its time we in the United States join them.

Economic Bill of Rights. For too many the existing status quo of the economy has meant stagnating wages, worker instability, and too many of our people living paycheck to paycheck in a constant state of stress. Housing is unaffordable, Education is unaffordable, the basics like Groceries and Gas are too expensive, and we stand at the precipice of an AI and automation revolution which threatens to greatly exacerbate worker conditions and instability if not handled properly. We are the richest country; we spend over $800 billion dollars annually on the military; we don’t need to live like this. We need a Modern Social Contract which reworks the basics of the economy like Healthcare, Education, Housing, Gas, and Water, and guarantees the working class will share in the benefits of AI / Automation and not be made worse off by it.

Law & Order. Accountability. We need True Law and Order. Throughout the first year of the Trump Regime numerous laws have been broken and abuses of power have taken place. To be clear, this was a problem before the Trump Administration, but we’ve never seen lawlessness to this extent and so out in the open. DOGE illegally destroying governmental departments, Masked Ice Agents engaging in lawless activity, and rich Epstein clientele committing heinous acts including child sex trafficking and child abuse are just some of the examples that paint a picture of power run amok. When someone steals, or there is a sexual assault or a crime of some type or another, there must be punishment and accountability. Without it, when there is impunity and lawlessness, that same behavior can be repeated or may even embolden others to commit similar crimes in the future. Law and order is not Persecution, it is a cornerstone of any healthy, functioning society.

Activism Politics. Cory believes we need a politics of activism within the body politic. We often wonder why year after year and election after election nothing ever gets done and nothing changes. It bares worth to note nothing substantial has ever really gotten done by just blue suits in Washington DC. When president Franklin Roosevelt was pushing through the New Deal to uplift millions out of poverty, there was labor militancy agitating on the outside. President Lyndon Johnson didn’t push through the Civil Rights Act by himself, there was the Civil Rights movement and a Million Man March down on Washington. Cory intends to tap into that inside-outside full spectrum strategy by organizing and leading marches, strikes, and nonviolent protests as moments of opportunity present themselves where they would be effective.
